All tryouts are at Cupertino Middle School
If a tryout is rained out, check the web site or call the Serra Hotline
for more information, (408)345-9800. Another session will likely be held the
following weekend time and date TBD, weather permitting. Pre Tryout Warmups: There will be a pre tryout warmup for
minors/majors on Saturday, 1/14 from 1 to 3PM at Cupertino Middle School. It is
not mandatory, just a chance for players to get out before the following week's
official tryout days.
Details: Little
league age is the player's age on 4/30 of the playing year. All players who are
10, 11 or 12 years old (Little League age) must attend tryouts to be eligible
to play in the Majors or Minors Division. Players Little League age 9 and under
are not eligible for Majors.
If your child is 9 years old (Little League
age) and wants to play in the farm division, he/she should not attend tryouts.
If your child wants to play in Minors or is undecided, then he/she should
attend tryouts.
Tryouts will start on time and your child needs to be
available the entire time period (approximately 3 to 4 hours). It is to your
child's advantage to try out with the right age group. However, 9's and 10's
who cannot make the morning session can still try out at the afternoon session
and vice versa.
Each player will be required to demonstrate playing
ability in the following areas: Catching, throwing, fielding, hitting and base
running. Be sure that your child is dressed appropriately and has a baseball
glove and cleats. Bats and balls will be provided.
For safety purposes,
all male participants should wear a cup for protection.
Information
About Age Groups
8 and 9 year olds (league
age): In accordance with Little League rules, all 10, 11, and 12
year olds, must be placed in the Minors or Majors Divisions (unless a parent
requests a lower division). This means 8s and 9s will only be
placed in Minors, regardless of ability, if space allows.
10 year olds (league age): By Serra rule, 10 year olds
are eligible to be drafted to Majors. Majors is the first level where Managers
are not required to give equal playing time to all and often the 10 year olds
are affected. Parents of 10s who wish to have their child removed from
consideration for Majors should indicate that at the tryout check in by writing
minors only when they sign in.
11 year
olds (league age): 11 year olds are eligible to be drafted to the
Majors Division. If you would like to request a waiver for your child, please
contact the Serra Minors/Majors Player Agent at
mmplayeragent@serralittleleague.com.
12 year olds
(league age): In accordance with Little League rules, all 12 year
olds will be placed in the Majors Division unless there is a special waiver. If
you have questions or would like to get a waiver, please contact the Serra
Minors/Majors Player Agent at
mmplayeragent@serralittleleague.com
